Support Groups

HUMC has a Women's Cancer Support Group. There have also been classes on grief and a support group. Look here for more information on existing and upcoming support groups.

Herndon UMC offers a wonderful, caring support group for women who have had and are going through cancer. We meet to share experiences, to pray, to laugh and cry, and to love one another. Our group provides meals, rides when we can, and other support for those currently going through treatment. We also do some really fun things like go out to dinner or on the Herndon tour of homes together. We are fortunate to have a registered nurse, and congregation member, as part of our group.  She helps provide answers to questions about medicine, treatment, and other things you may want to know.

We started meeting in 2009, but new members are always welcome!  We would also like to invite into the group women who are or have been caregivers to someone with cancer.  While your experience is different, your life is still touched by cancer.  Come, be a part of this wonderful caring group.

The phone ministry is a small team dedicated to calling members of the congregation who are listed in the prayer section of the bulletin or the email prayer chain. We provide a listening ear for those recovering from surgery or an illness. The only skills you need are the gift of listening and compassion for others.
