Shannon Wise has a passion for connecting people with their musical gifts, and enjoys engaging others in a variety of musical styles and expressions.  She is a classically trained soprano and holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Illinois, where she worked as a Graduate Assistant teaching private voice lessons from 1996 - 1998.  After moving to the D.C. area in 1998, she opened a private voice and piano studio, and began performing in the D.C. metro area.

Shannon made her professional Washington debut in September 1999 with the Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia (OTNV) as Bertha in Rossini's The Barber of Seville.  She received the Artist of the Year award from OTNV in October 1999 and was the second place winner of the regional N.A.T.S. competition (National Association of Teachers of Singing) that year.     Shannon was employed as a professional member of the Master Chorale of Washington under Donald McCullough from 2003 – 2009.  She enjoyed singing solos in the Rutter Requiem, the Christmas Candlelight Concerts, and in the Berkey Arma Lucis.  She was also thrilled to be part of the professional core singers in the Christmas in Washington concert in 2007, performing with Andre Boccelli and Alan Jackson. In 2002, Shannon completed her Master of Science degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University of Maryland and began exploring ways of connecting her love of helping others with her love of music.  In 2004 she was called to take the position of Music Director at Oakton United Methodist Church.

Shannon is excited to be a member of the staff team at Herndon United Methodist Church, and is thankful to be a part of a congregation with many talented musicians willing to offer their musical gifts.  She is actively exploring ways of connecting ensemble members with solo instrumentalists and finding musical outlets for members of all ages attending each of the four worship services offered at HUMC.  Shannon is blessed to have the support of her loving husband, Mike, and the continual reminder of God’s love and sense of humor through her three exuberant children, Emma, Joshua, and Aaron.
