HUMC Kids provides programs and activities for children through 6th grade. We offer many opportunities for children and their families to grow in their relationship with God and with one another, including Kid's Worship, Sunday School, and UPWARD Basketball (in season). Click on the menu to the right (or below if you are on a smaller screen) to learn more.
HUMC offers children many opportunities to express themselves and praise God. Learn more here about the children's choirs, bell ensemble and puppet ministry. Practices run between September and May each year, with performances in worship, at Wednesday night GIFT Dinners, and sometimes outside HUMC. New members are always welcome.
Each year we offer many special events for HUMC Kids and the community, the big events include the Easter Egg Roll and Pancake Breakfast, Vacation Bible School (registration opens May 1), Trunk-Or-Treat, and the Christmas Pageant. Check back here for the latest information on these and other events.
We observe Safe Sanctuary guidelines and strive to be allergy aware to maintain a safe but FUN environment for all of the children! If you want to participate, please make sure that we have a current set of Connection Project forms for your family.
The Children's Christmas Pageant is a wonderful annual tradition at Herndon UMC. Each year this musical gives children age 3 through 6th grade an opportunity to learn about and share the Christmas story. This year's Christmas pageant is “A Piece of Christmas” by Cathy Skogan-Soldner. It follows a piece of fabric as it is passed between the important people in the Christmas story. All children are invited to join in the fun; you do not have to be a member of Herndon UMC to participate.
HUMC KIDS will present the pageant on Wednesday, December 5 at 6pm in conjunction with a dinner hosted by the Herndon UMC Preschool. The dinner is a fundraiser to benefit the Preschool scholarship fund.
- A Parent's Information Meeting is Sunday, October 7 at 10:15am.
- Auditions for the speaking parts is Sunday October 14, between 3:30 and 4:30pm in room 20. Please select a time slot for your child’s audition at https://goo.gl/NHmNJj
- Rehearsals for singing will be during the usual Joyful Noise and One Accord choir rehearsals on Wednesdays (5:30 or 6:30pm, depending on age).
- Rehearsals for the entire pageant are Sunday afternoons, 4:00 - 5:00pm.
- Dress Rehearsal is on December 2.
- The pageant is on December 5, and performers should report at 5pm.
Please note that KIDS who only want to sing do not need to come to these auditions. Children do not have to learn any line prior to the audition unless they choose to, rather than read from the script. We promise to do our best to give a speaking part to everyone who wants one. Each scene is just as important as the others in this story so there are plenty of fun parts to choose from!
Join us for TRUNK OR TREAT on Saturday, October 27 from 3-5pm in the front parking lot of Herndon UMC. Trunk or Treat is a great alternative (or addition) to traditional Trick or Treating. Wear your costume and bring your treat bags to collect lots of candy and other fun goodies as you trick or treat around the decorated car trunks. There will be a bouncy house, face painting, music and fun! This event will be held outdoors, or inside if it rains.
Trunkers Wanted! A prize is awarded to the favorite trunk!
If you or your family would be interested in being one of our ‘Trunkers’, for the protection of the kids, we ask Trunkers to please register here. We want Trunk or Treat to be a fun experience for our community.
What does it take? It’s easy. Choose a theme. Decorate your "trunk" and bring candy (nut free please). Activities are also encouraged to make the experience more fun for the kids. Sports games, puzzles, and crafts are all popular. You are asked to show up by 2:15pm to set up and be ready for kids at 3pm.
This event is fun for everyone!
Over Labor Day weekend, Herndon UMC announced that Christine Hoyle, our Children's Ministry Director will be leaving us. While Christine has been at Herndon UMC for just over a year, she has spent the last seven years serving in ministry to children and youth. Her family's schedules have changed and Christine needs to be there to support her family. Although we will miss her greatly and are sad to see her go, we support Christine in this decision.
Christine's ministry at Herndon UMC has meant so much to our whole church family. Please be sure to let Christine know how much she and her ministry here at Herndon UMC meant to you. Her last Sunday will be September 16.
