Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of all that is entrusted to your care.  At Herndon UMC, we think of our selves as a church family and as a family, we have a wonderful facility in our care that we may use to connect with one another and our community, to grow in faith and in our relationships with one another, and to serve our neighbors.  We respond to God's gifts to us by generously giving our own time, talents and treasure.

Each November, we ask our church family to make a promise of what they can do to financially support Herndon UMC in the coming year.  This promise is not binding; we understand that circumstances change.  But, it helps our leaders budget responsibly and plan for the coming year.

The attached Stewardship brochure, which is also available at the Connection Corners in the church, provides the following information about:

  • Why should you give?
  • Convenient Options for Giving
  • Day-to-Day Discipleship (our Operating Budget)
  • Preserve. Strengthen. Grow. (our capital campaign)
  • Invest for the Future (our Endowment Fund)

There is also a small section about time and talents, which provides a link to a UMC Spiritual Gifts Online Assessment.

Stewardship Weekend will be November 17-18.  During worship, we will celebrate those willing to make a commitment and pledge their financial support to Herndon UMC.  You can also complete the "pledge card" online here, or return a card to the church office anytime by mail or in person.

Thank you for your interest in Stewardship at Herndon UMC.

To better do His will in the future, Herndon UMC is began building an Endowment Fund in 2004.  The "Fund" may not be used to meet operational expenses, but instead will eventually provide additional financial support to church ministries.  Before any income may be used, however, the "Fund" must grow to $250,000.

At Herndon UMC, we appreciate God's many gifts to us and understand that we are given opportunities to give back to God through our financial support. The generous contributions-- from members, guests, and friends in our community-- support day-to-day operations, specific ministries and missions, the pastor's discretionary fund, student scholarships, memorial gifts, and the financial security of the church through endowments. Learn more here about how others have and continue to provide financial support for Herndon UMC's ministries.

In the Spring of 2016, Herndon UMC conducted a feasibility study to determine if our church family felt that this could be the right time to address several financial issues facing the church.  The answer was a resounding yes, and in the Fall, the church leadership with the support of Richie Musser began laying the ground work for a three-year capital campaign titled--  Preserve, Strengthen, and Grow.  If you are looking for more information about the campaign, you have found the right spot.
