The VIM trip will be traveling to Swansboro N.C., the week of May 6-10. Rebuilding Mission Ministry (RMM) is seeking volunteers to join the VIM team to assist with recovery efforts in Swansboro from Hurricane Florence. We will be working with UMVIM North Carolina Disaster and Recovery Assistance. No prior experience or special skills required. Your willingness to serve is the only requirement. Projects will include removal of damage drywall, flooring, subflooring, laying of subfloor and hanging drywall, no taping, mud, sanding or painting.
Hurricane Florence caused massive wind damage and flooding to that area. Over 20,000 families have filed for FEMA assistant. Water levels in the flooded homes ranged from 3 feet to 15 feet. FEMA funding only provides for the removal and installation of drywall and subfloor, a 3 -4 cubic foot refrigerator and a 1 burner hot plate. Once completed, the house is ready for occupancy. All other material and appliances are at the expense of the family.
The North Carolina UMVIM does not have funding available to assist the families with the recover. If you cannot make the mission trip, your financial support would be appreciated. All donated funds go directly to families to help with completing the repairs. Home Depot and Lowes gift cards are excellent and cash donations are always welcomed. Donations can be dropped off at the church office. Checks can be made payable to HUMC – VIM. These designated donations may be made in the offering plate, by mail, dropped off at the church office or online at Herndon UMC's online giving page.
The VIM team thanks you for your generosity, support and prayers.
