As the students of Fairfax County went back to school on September 8, members, friends, and family of Herndon UMC got together to pack food for children of Dranesville Elementary School. The group of about 12 people packed around 200 bags for the children. These meals go to the children that receive free and reduced lunch during the week. The bags include two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, two snacks, and two drinks.
The hope is that the children will have meals through the weekend until they return to school on Monday. The backpacks are one of the projects of the Neighbors in Need Team.
This winter Neighbors in Need will be sponsoring an Angel Tree for Toys for LINK, Inc. and also coordinating meals for the North County Hypothermia Prevention (NCHP) Program. The first GIFT Dinner of the season was sponsored by Neighbors in Need with the proceeds to help with costs associated with the NCHP meals.
Be watching for more information about helping with the upcoming projects.
