Herndon UMC is excited to share an announcement with you regarding our new Director of Student Ministries. About two months ago, our Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) began a search for a great person to come and be a part of the Herndon UMC family. After receiving a wealth of resumés, we distilled candidates down to a smaller group who interviewed with members of our SPRC and who had the chance to meet with youth, youth leaders, and young adults to share their leadership.
Following this extensive process, we extended an offer to JoAnn Batteiger to serve as our next Director of Student Ministries at Herndon UMC. I am delighted to share with you that she has accepted our offer and will begin as a part of our staff team tomorrow, March 15. JoAnn lives in Atlanta, GA where she is finishing her Master of Divinity degree at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. JoAnn is originally from Richmond, VA, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.
Because of the unique nature of ministry in a pandemic, and because JoAnn still has a couple of months left in her program at Candler, we’re approaching JoAnn’s onboarding a little differently. For her first 90 days, JoAnn will be working remotely from Atlanta on a part-time (10-15 hours/week) basis. This will give her a chance to build relationships with students and staff and will establish some foundations for her work in our community. JoAnn will be moving to the Herndon area in June and will transition to full-time (30 hours/week) employment with our church on June 15, 2021.
If you’d like to take a deeper dive with JoAnn, I would encourage you to check out an interview Pastor Jonathan filmed with her this week available on YouTube or below. JoAnn is going to be a great part of our church family! If you’d like to connect with JoAnn directly, please reach out to her via email at email@example.com.
Please join in welcoming JoAnn Batteiger to the Herndon UMC family!
