February 6 | This I Promise You — Our Shared Commitments (Week 2): Presence

Feb 2, 2022 | Worship

You are invited into this worship experience for the week of Sunday,
February 6.

Commitments are made in a lot of different spaces these days. We have work commitments, family commitments, social commitments, and so much more. All of these commitments can feel overwhelming and overdone at times. So what would it look like to see the commitments we make in Christian community not as another “to do”, but as a space for freedom and sharing? In this five week stewardship series, we’ll look at the commitments we make when joining our church as a foundation for conversation about the ways commitment can be shared, and how our mutual living can lead to mutual growth and love by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Getting to church can be such a chore. There is so much else to do, showing up for an hour of worship or a who-knows-how-long-this-will-be meeting or study can feel like an extremely burdensome task. Even when presence can be digital, prioritization can create questions for us about how we allocate our time. The Gospel of Matthew serves as a reminder that presence, in any intentional form with any number of people, carries with it the power of connection and reconciliation. How might we be intentional in developing a shared presence together?

Presence is not about creating another “to do” on our calendar, but about creating the space for the Holy Spirit to dwell.

No matter where you worship from, you are encouraged to add your voice to prayers and songs and stand as you are able.  There is a Bulletin to help you experience worship.  It includes links and information to help you be connected at Herndon UMC along with the order of worship.

This week we are having a single worship service Sunday @ 10am in Herndon UMC’s Fellowship Hall. This service is livestreamed on YouTube and herndonumc.org.

Nursery care is available for infants and young children during the Sunday worship services.  If you have questions about the Nursery, contact mallory@herndonumc.org.

KIDS Age 3 – Grade 6 start Sunday mornings in Worship with their families, and are invited to join our adult leaders for their own hands-on Bible learning time after the Children’s Message.

As always, we want to stay connected and are a community of prayer.  Glory sightings and prayer concerns may be shared by text, in the chat, through this online form, or at any time by email to prayerchain@herndonumc.org.

If you are new or looking to get more connected or learn more about Herndon UMC, please email welcome@herndonumc.org or complete this online form.  You are welcome here and we would love to grow in a Spirit-filled relationship with you.
