May 29 | Confirmation for Everyone (Week 5): A 21st Century Christianity

May 25, 2022 | Worship

You are invited into this worship experience for the week of Sunday, May 29.

When young people are in their middle and high school years, they go through something we call Confirmation. Other traditions might call it catechism or some other form of discipleship or intentional learning, but the point of this experience is to teach young people about some of the core principles of Christianity. We trust that, throughout life, people are on a discipleship journey that builds on the foundations of Confirmation. And while that may be the case, it is infrequent that we revisit those foundational pieces as a set apart consideration in worship. This Easter series will give us a lens to reconnect with the lessons of Confirmation, believing that we might continue our journey of faith together.

From Romans 12:9-21

The Christian faith of the 21st century is part of a long, always-evolving history, shaping and being shaped in different forms: some great, others problematic. Today we are wrestling with the effects of that long history while continuing to discern where God is calling us forth. In Paul’s letter to the Romans, we are reminded that what matters most in this season of life is how we might ground our shared life in practices we have been shown through Christ. In this reflection, we hope to be aware not only of the ways we live our faith today, but also how that might inform the calling forward of Christianity into the centuries to come.

No matter where you worship from, you are encouraged to add your voice to prayers and songs and stand as you are able.  There is a Bulletin  to help you experience worship.  It includes links and information to help you be connected at Herndon UMC along with the order of worship.
