October 10 Worship – The Forgiving Flow (Week 1): What Forgiveness Is(n’t)

Oct 7, 2021 | Worship

You are invited into this worship experience for the week of Sunday,
October 10.

The “F word” in church sometimes isn’t that naughty, but can be really hard to say, and even more difficult to live. Why is forgiveness such a tough concept for us? In all likelihood, a lot of the challenge behind forgiveness is that it isn’t a light switch, just something we do or don’t do, receive or don’t receive. Realistically, forgiveness is a process, a flow that starts with God and trickles down through us to all humanity. So what would it take for us to sit deep in the rush of the forgiving flow, allowing God’s forgiveness to wash over us, flow through to others, and even return to our own hearts and lives? What would it take for this to be something more than a cool concept or something we might do later on, but an action of grace we participate in here and now? This four week series will invite us to consider forgiveness at a depth we may have never been before, while at the same time receiving forgiveness even to the very depths of our souls.

Forgiveness, fundamentally, is like the relieving of a large debt. We all carry the weight of sin in some capacity, and forgiveness is a gift God gives to us and encourages us to give to others. Forgiveness is not the same thing as forgetfulness or foolishness, but it is giving yourself the freedom to receive from God and not to be controlled by another. We’ll look at some of the basics of forgiveness and how each part of the forgiving flow is essential to a holistic sense of God’s forgiveness.

No matter where you worship from, you are encouraged to add your voice to prayers and songs and stand as you are able.  There is a Bulletin to help you experience worship.  It includes links and information to help you be connected at Herndon UMC along with the order of worship for all three services.

There are three opportunities to worship each Sunday: traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 9:30am, our modern, unplugged worship at 11:00am in the Fellowship Hall, and Relax and Renew, a traditional, casual worship in the sanctuary at 5:00pm. The 9:30 worship will be livestreamed on YouTube and herndonumc.org.

Nursery care is available for infants and young children during the Sunday worship services.  If you have questions about the Nursery, contact mallory@herndonumc.org. As always, we want to stay connected and are a community of prayer.  Glory sightings and prayer concerns may be shared by text, in the chat, through this online form, or at any time by email to prayerchain@herndonumc.org. If you are new or looking to get more connected or learn more about Herndon UMC, please email welcome@herndonumc.org or complete this online form.  You are welcome here and we would love to grow in a Spirit-filled relationship with you.
