Growing Resilience and Empowering Mental Well Being
About Rise Up!
Rise Up! was launched back in the spring of 2022 as a musical way to raise mental health awareness and celebrate the ability to perform a live public concert again after two years of pandemic restrictions. May 18 will mark Herndon UMC’s third annual Rise Up! concert and we are dreaming big this year–partnering with the Fairfax County Community Services Board and the National Alliance on Mental Illness to host a “Day of Hope” for our community that will include free resilience education classes and a resilience fair where people can connect with local mental health and wellness resources. The classes and resilience fair will run from 5-7 pm and the concert will be held at 7 pm.
New sponsors and classes will be added in the coming weeks. Check back again soon for more information.
This event is not just about growing resilience but also about building awareness for how as a community we can support each others mental well-being and about resources that are available.
5-7 PM FREE Classes & Resilience Fair
FREE Classes will be offered. Registration should open soon to allow folks to guarantee a seat in the class that they would like to attend. Course offerings include:

What’s predictable is preventable – because of recent discoveries in neuroscience, epigenetics, epidemiology, and resilience studies, we can understand how protection, prevention, and resilience promotion can profoundly improve health, safety and productivity, and reduce public and private costs now and for generations to come.
The “Building Resilient Communities and Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences” presentation includes in-depth information about: the neurobiological effects of adversity on development, the impacts of childhood adversity and trauma on population health, and resilience – what we can all do to improve health and well-being across the lifespan.
Walk-ins welcome while space is available.
Ending the Silence for Students from NAMI Northern Virginia:
